This is the start of a home-heavy June schedule; 17 of the Twins' next 20 games are at Target Field, where they are 8-15 and have lost 11 of their past 13 games. … They won two of three games at home against Tampa Bay last season, but they are 6-16 all-time against the Rays in Target Field. … Until last season (4-2), the Twins had not won the season series against Tampa Bay since 2006. … Gibson will be making his first start since April 22, when he went on the disabled list because of a strained shoulder. Gibson is 0-4 with an 8.85 ERA in his career against the Rays. … Nolasco is 3-5 with a 7.33 ERA vs. the Rays. … Twins closer Kevin Jepsen is a former Rays reliever.

The Rays have lost nine of their past 11 games entering Wednesday to fall into last place in the AL East. … They are 11-13 on the road, and have lost five of six before Wednesday. … They rank 13th in the AL in scoring, but have allowed the fifth-fewest runs in the league. … The Rays are missing RHP Brad Boxberger, CF Kevin Kiermaier, RHP Alex Cobb, RHP Ryan Webb and 2B Logan Forsythe because of injuries. … Andriese didn't join the rotation until May 8, but the rookie has pitched three games already in which he completed seven innings and allowed only one run.
