Twins players were in the batting cages as early at 7:30 this morning, getting some swings in and working with the coaches on mechanics, etc. Other players double- and triple-checked the workout schedule to make sure they knew which field to be on.

Terry Ryan and his henchmen entered the clubhouse around 8:45, and Ryan immediately began introducing himself to players he hadn't met in person yet. At 9, the Twins began a series of speeches that mark the first day of full squad workouts. By 9:30, the players hit the field for stretching and we are now about to see some drills.

Spring training has begun.

Lefthander Rafael Perez, signed to a minor league deal on Thursday, has arrived in camp and will take part in workouts.

Hall of Famers Rod Carew and Paul Molitor have arrived and are in uniform.

There won't be live batting practice until Monday, after the Twins get five workout days in and the position players can hit in the cages a couple times before facing pitchers.

Mike Pelfrey, Liam Hendriks, Michael Tonkin,. Anthony Slama and Trevor May are among pitchers scheduled to throw in the bullpen this morning.
