The Twins will not have a 26th man for the second game of tonight's doubleheader after all.
MLB allows teams to add an extra player for doubleheaders. It was announced after Wednesday's game was rained out that Andrew Albers would be selected from Class AAA Rochester. But when Buddy Boshers landed on the disabled list with elbow inflammation, it allowed the club to add Albers to the roster as an injury replacement.
In addition to Albers, the Twins wanted to one more another arm before tonight's game but his flight from Rochester was canceled and he would not have arrived here in time for the game. So the Twins will go with what they have right now
``We had some other moves planned," interim GM Rob Antony said. ``But with the injury and the travel situation, that's where we are at. We do have the pitcher here that can give us some length."
Boshers will have a MRI on his elbow on Friday after giving up six runs in 11/3 of work in the first game on Thursday. His ERA jumped from 3.86 to 5.84 because of the onslaught.
``I didn't get the word until I came up here after the game," Twins manger Paul Molitor said. ``I haven't heard anything prior to today that has been ongoing. I'm sure we'll do a little digging to see if this is something we could have tried to catch earlier."
Molitor said he warned Eduardo Escobar to not try to throw too hard when he asked him to pitch in the ninth inning today. Then he grew concerned when Escobar started hitting 90 miles an hour on the gun.
``It's a little bit of comic relief on not a very good day," Molitor said.
