TWINS UPDATE

This is the first stop on a five-game interleague road trip that takes them to San Francisco over the weekend. The Twins are 9-10 on the road, but have won two of their past three road series. … They are 0-3 in interleague play, having been swept at home by the Dodgers earlier this month, and they have lost seven consecutive games against National League teams, their longest such interleague skid since play began in 1997. The Twins are 165-140 in interleague play. They are 9-3 against the Padres and have won the past six meetings, including a three-game sweep at Petco Park in 2008 and another sweep at Target Field in 2011. … Brian Dozier leads the American League in runs with 40; Trevor Plouffe leads the AL in doubles with 17; and C Kurt Suzuki is sixth in batting average at .312.

PADRES UPDATE

They are 12-11 at home and have won three in a row at Petco Park. They are 4-5 in interleague play. … They have scored only 133 runs this season in 44 games, an average of 3.02 per game that ranks 29th in the majors. That's 60 runs fewer than the Twins have scored. On the other hand, they have given up only 154 runs, the sixth fewest in the game. ... Kennedy and Hughes were Yankees teammates in 2008. … Hampered by a right calf strain that put him on the disabled list, 3B Chase Headley, a free agent after the season, is off to an awful start (.191, four homers). ... Closer Huston Street owns a 1.98 ERA and seven saves in 12 career appearances against the Twins. ... 2B Jedd Gyorko leads San Diego in home runs with five and RBI with 20, but is hitting only .152.
