Twins promote catcher Rivera

BOSTON -- The Twins announced that they will purchase the contract of catcher Rene Rivera before Friday's game against the Red Sox. Rivera was batting .200 (9-for-45) for Rochester. He has previous major league experience with the Mariners. The Twins will add Rivera to their 40-man roster. They had one open spot. Rivera swaps places with fellow journeyman catcher Steve Holm, who was sent back to Rochester on Wednesday with his average at .118.
