Overlooked in all the Morneauness on Tuesday was that Delmon Young made his first appearance of spring training after battling through turf toe on his left toe.
Young was designated hitter on Tuesday and drew walks in each of his two scheduled at-bats. He didn't favor his foot as he hustled to first on a fly ball that dropped just foul and raced home from first base in the third inning when Morneau lined a double down the right field line.
Twins manager Ron Gardenhire joked about Young's walks because the young slugger has walked just 97 times in 353 career games.
``Two walks in one game," Gardenhire said. ``Chrysler, we haven't seen that in a long time. Ever, maybe. hat in a long time. Ever, maybe. We thought that was historic."
Young did hit .298 last season with 21 homers and 112 RBI.
BEHIND THE TRIPLE
Twins infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka has told the Japanese media in camp that he's working on tracking pitches through the plate, which has led to a lot of batted balls to the opposite field.
His plan is to look to drive the ball more once he gets comfortable.
