Twins postgame: Morneau watch

Twins first baseman works his way back after neck surgery during rehab stint at Class AAA Rochester

August 7, 2011 at 5:13AM

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said after Saturday's game that first baseman Justin Morneau should need at least seven or eight games of action at Class AAA Rochester to knock the rust off after missing two months because of neck surgery.

There was a lot of talk before the game about how Gardy will juggle the lineup once Morneau returns. To be honest, I'm not ready to spread that information around because just when you expect a team to get healthy, someone else gets hurt.

And this Twins team can't stay off the DL.

Anyway, Morneau was 1-for-4 on Saturday during a loss to Norfolk. He grounded out, hit a soft single to center, hit into a fielder's choice and grounded out in four plate appearances.

The big thing was that he was able to play all nine innings. It will be interesting to see if he can back it up Sunday.
