Mitchell’s lone career start vs. the Twins, in 2015, ended when he was hit in the face by an Eduardo Nunez line drive. Smith would be making his major league debut. Cessa and Montgomery have never faced the Twins. … Former Twins OF Aaron Hicks has been out for three weeks because of a strained right oblique. The 14th overall pick in 2008, Hicks had been putting everything together this year, batting .290 with 10 homers, 37 RBI and a .398 on-base percentage. … The Yankees bullpen has had its own issues. Chapman has been battling command issues, and Tyler Clippard was recently removed from his seventh-inning role.
