Twins: Mauer pulled from lineup. Arcia also out against Tigers

Twins catcher Joe Mauer was going to play in every game of the Tigers series, but manager Ron Gardenhire said on Tuesday that nothing was serious with the All-Star.

Gardenhire noted that the Twins are playing 27 games in 27 day and just wanted to be careful.

But Mauer was pulled from the starting lineup about an hour before the first pitch when he reported dizziness during batting practice. Mauer was scheduled to play first base on Tuesday. Josh Willingham moves to DH. Justin Morneau moves to first base. Chris Herrmann moves to Mauer's No. 2 spot in the order.

Righthander Samuel Deduno will throw in the bullpen on Wednesday and, if that goes well, he will make his start on Friday against Cleveland.

Outfielder Oswaldo Arcia is out tonight because his sore left wrist has flared up.

In both cases, the Twins are concerned about getting all the truth out of each player.

Antony said the language barrier isn't a factor.

``He wants to pitch but I think he's a little unsure just because it's sore and he's not sure how its going to feel come Friday," Antony said.

The problem is that Deduno had some soreness before he mentioned it to the team after struggling on Sunday. So the Twins are still trying to get a read on how sore he is. They feel a little awkward because they aren't sure if they are getting the full story.

As for Arcia, Antony said that the medical staff is disappointed because he had a sore wrist last week but didn't think it was serious, didn't come in to get it checked out and it has gotten worse. ``Increasingly sore from swinging," Antony said.. Arcia will not play tonight.

``That's a day to day thing as well," Antony said. ``If we had known we would have gotten it treated right from the start."

``You'd like to know about it so we can treat it while they are fighting through it," Antony said. ``That one blindsided us a little bit because he said, when he was asked, he was fine."

So the Twins are down to two bench players for tonight's game.
