The Twins have recalled first baseman Chris Parmelee, who has been tearing up the International League.

Parmelee is batting .338 with 17 doubles, 17 home runs and 49 RBI in 64 games at Class AAA Rochester and helped the Red Wings make a late playoff push. That push has fallen short, making it easier for the Twins to bring him up now.

He can play first base or right field, which gives the Twins flexibility in case Denard Span's shoulder problems continue.

To make room for Parmelee, the Twins outrighted righthander Jeff Gray to Class AAA Rochester. That means he's no longer on the 40-man. That gives the Twins more room to add players who are coming off the 60-day DL soon (P.J. Walters) or to add a September callup who's currently not on the roster.
