It will be up to Gibson to get the Twins off to a good start. Gibson’s strikeout rate is up 0.8 from last year but he still struggles with putting away hitters at times. Pelfrey is second to Gibson in that category with 20. … 1B Joe Mauer is 4-for-10 with two doubles in the three games at Oakland over the weekend, and he has a good chance to end the road trip strong. Mauer has a .364 career batting average at Angel Stadium with a .966 OPS, both his second-highest numbers at any road park where he has played at least 20 games. He is only 3-for-28 against Wilson, however. … RF Torii Hunter, who played with the Angels from 2008 to ’12, is a career .285 hitter at Angel Stadium.
Los Angeles went 7-0 vs. the Twins last year, outscoring them 54-31 while batting .336 with five home runs. … The Angels and Red Sox were rained out Sunday — only the 10th rainout in 49 years at Angel Stadium — forcing a doubleheader Monday. … Richards is coming off a two-hit, 3-0 shutout of Boston on Saturday. He was in the middle of a strong 2014 season when he tore the patellar tendon in his left knee in August. He’s back and his fastball is averaging 95.4 miles per hour. He anchors a rotation that entered Monday third in the AL with a 3.59 ERA. … In 20 career games, the great Mike Trout is batting .370 vs. the Twins with two homers.
