TWINS UPDATE

The Twins are 24-30 on Opening Day but have lost their past six in a row. They are 4-3 against the Tigers in the opener. … Phil Hughes is making the first Opening Day start of his career. He's the fourth different pitcher to start the opener in four years, following Carl Pavano, Vance Worley and Ricky Nolasco. … The Twins went 10-9 against the Tigers last year, the first time since 2009 they posted a winning record against Detroit. … It's RF Torii Hunter's return to Detroit, where he played the past two seasons. Hunter batted .295 with 34 homers in two seasons with the Tigers.

DETROIT UPDATE

The Tigers have won three straight Opening Day games. … David Price will be making his fourth Opening Day start but first for Detroit; he was 1-1 with a 3.54 ERA in three openers while with Tampa Bay. Price is 5-3 with a 2.55 career ERA against the Twins. … It's the first time since 2007 that Justin Verlander has not started the opener for the Tigers. Verlander went on the disabled list last week with a sore right triceps. … Shortstop Jose Iglesias will play in his first game since 2013. He missed the entire 2014 season with stress fractures in both shins.
