The Twins are 9-7 against lefthanded starting pitchers, and they'll face three of them in this series. … With Santana on the mound Tuesday, the Twins have the option of bringing him back Sunday at Cleveland. … Max Kepler has a hit in 12 of his past 16 home games. … Eduardo Escobar has a good chance of continuing his hitting surge. He's batting .375 with a homer and four RBI against the White Sox. He also is batting .360 against lefties. … The Twins are 5-3 against the White Sox this season but dropped two of three to Chicago at Target Field in April.

Holmberg is taking the place of righthander Miguel Gonzalez, who landed on the disabled list because of inflammation in his shoulder. … Chicago has had to put four starters on the DL this season, so it doesn't only happen to the Twins. … On Monday, the White Sox placed outfielder Leury Garcia, their only true center fielder on the roster, on the DL because of a sprained finger on his left hand. His replacement will be announced Tuesday … White Sox starters have only five quality starts over their past 26 games.
