This has become the Year of the Call-up, as several highly touted prospects have debuted across the league. Two of the top prospects in the game collide this weekend as the Twins’ Byron Buxton faces the Cubs’ Kris Bryant. Buxton is learning about what pitching is all about on this level. Manager Paul Molitor has suggested that Buxton be more aggressive early in the count, and the rookie responded on Thursday by swinging at the first pitch in two of his four at-bats. … No current Twin has homered off Jon Lester, but Torii Hunter is 14-for-28 against him and Joe Mauer has a career .348 average against him. … The last time the Twins faced the Cubs was in 2012 at Target Field, with the Twins taking two of three games.

Lester is 3-4 with a 3.86 ERA in 11 career games (10 starts) against the Twins. He threw a complete-game shutout at the Twins on Aug. 7 last year after he was dealt from Boston to Oakland. … First baseman Anthony Rizzo had his left knee on the ground as he hit a home run against Cleveland on Wednesday. … Hendrick is a former eighth-round pick of the Rangers who was part of a deal that allowed Texas to acquire Ryan Dempster in 2012. … The series also marks the return of former Twin Ron Coomer, who is now an analyst for the Cubs radio network. … Top prospect Kyle Schwarber is up to be the designated hitter during interleague road games. He’s headed to Class AAA Iowa after the series to work on his catching.
