The Twins have announced that they have recalled first baseman Chris Parmelee from Class AAA Rochester and have optioned righthander Cole De Vries to Rochester.

Parmelee began the season with the Twins but hit .179 in 27 games, He has rediscovered the form that led to him being called up late last year, batting .375 with 4 homers and 12 RBI in 15 games.

"We could use another bat," Twins general manager Terry Ryan said. "And he gives us flexibility at first base, DH and the outfield. It's a good fit."

De Vries was 1-1 with a 4.20 ERA in three starts.

The Twins have been carrying 13 pitchers for a chunk of the season. With off days today and Monday, they felt it was a good time to go back to 12.

"Things have settled down and the bullpen is doing a good job," Ryan said.
