Twin Cities Tibetans plan to gather at a monastery in Minneapolis this evening to mourn the loss of a man, who died Wednesday after setting his body on fire to protest Chinese rule in Tibet.
Tibetans in Minnesota will say prayers for Jamphel Yeshi, 27, at the Gyutoe Tantric Monastery from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, according to a released statement from Regional Tibetan Youth Congress of Minnesota, organizers of the prayer service.
"We are saddened by this news and we honor the sacrifice that Yeshi has made for our country," said Tenzing Jigme, president of the Youth Congress.
Yeshi set himself alight Monday at a demonstration in New Delhi to protest a visit by China's president, The Associated Press reports:
