Twin Cities art and architecture inspired new compositions by students, faculty and guest artists at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul. The "Art-Inspired Music Project" includes music composed by Ryan Horton, Alex Berglund (Guest Musical Artist), Maureen Lukas, Gabe Moore, Adam Conrad, J Allen (Faculty Musical Guest), Michael Holloway, John Kent and Gregory Reese.

They took inspiration from art (paintings, photography and sculpture) by Laura Andrews, Allen Brewer, Rhea Pappas, Michael McColl, Brant Kingman and Alonso Sierralta. Also inspiring the composers were Twin Cities landmarks, including the St. Paul Cathedral, Loring Park and the new, Jean Nouvel-designed Guthrie Theater. The public is invited to mingle with the artists at a McNally Smith open house and display on Saturday March 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The college is at 19 Exchange St. E. in St. Paul, www.mcnallysmith.edu. Here's Michael Holloway's composition inspired by the Guthrie Theater's new building on the Mississippi.
