The Twin Cities is under a heat advisory this weekend, with the heat index expected to top 100 degrees Sunday afternoon.
The National Weather Service issued the warning for most of the metro area and much of southwest and central Minnesota.
The advisory is in effect from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday, when temperatures will range from 90 to 95 degrees during the day. The humidity will make it feel hotter than 100 degrees, according to the service.
People should avoid the heat and humidity by staying out of the sun in air-conditioned areas and drinking plenty of fluids, the Weather Service advised.
Storms are also expected this weekend.
Isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop Saturday afternoon and evening, with some producing small hail.
On Sunday, severe weather, including large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes, is possible in the metro and much of central and southeast Minnesota, from Brainerd to Albert Lea.
The greatest risk for the storms is from 4 p.m. to midnight Sunday.
