A wrong-way driver killed a Twin Cities motorist traveling with his two daughters in a head-on collision near Sioux Falls, authorities said Sunday.

The crash occurred about 8:30 p.m. Friday on Hwy. 42 and killed Lee Waltner, 39, of Coon Rapids, according to the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

Waltner's daughters, 9-year-old Unity and 8-year-old Alyx, suffered serious injuries but were expected to survive, the patrol said.

Also seriously injured was the driver heading east on the westbound side of the highway, 18-year-old Jeffrey Kaubisch, of Sioux Falls, the patrol said.

Authorities have yet to say why Kaubisch was on the wrong side of the highway.
