Authorities have identified a motorcyclist who was speeding when he crashed and died last week near Red Wing.

Dylan B. Wieland of Fridley was riding shortly before midnight last Tuesday and crashed on Sturgeon Lake Road, about three-fourths of a mile west of the Treasure Island Resort & Casino, police said Sunday.

Wieland, who turned 23 the day before the wreck, was taken by emergency medical responders to a Red Wing hospital, where he died.

Wieland was wearing a helmet, "and speed appears to be a factor in the crash," a police statement read.
