A 3-year-old boy from the Twin Cities fell four stories from an apartment window in Rochester onto a patch of grass, leaving him with critical injuries, authorities said.

The incident occurred about 9:30 p.m. Monday at the Washington Village Apartments in the 900 block of 11th Avenue NW., according to police.

Aries Lorenzo Ahmed, from Columbia Heights, was with 21-year-old Halima Mohamed Ahmed in a bedroom and sitting on a bed near a window when he pushed on the screen and fell, police said. His mother, Fatuma Mohamed Ahmed, was elsewhere in the apartment.

Aries was initially unresponsive but came to by the time emergency responders arrived, police said. The boy was taken to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Authorities have yet to reveal any update on Aries’ condition since the initial disclosure of the incident.

Police say they are not looking at this case as a criminal matter.

“Our investigation is complete,” said Lt. Mike Sadauskis.
