Q: I have been unable to get any information regarding the AMC series "Turn: Washington's Spies." I'm hoping that it will be back.
A: The Revolutionary War drama will be back for a fourth and final season in 2017.
"I am so pleased to be able to bring the story of the Culper Ring to its epic conclusion, at the point where the Revolutionary War ends and the great American experiment truly begins," show runner Craig Silverstein said.
Another shot for 'Little Big Shots'
Q: Will we be seeing more of "Little Big Shots" with Steve Harvey? I have a granddaughter, her husband and two great-grandsons (a 7-year-old and an 8-month-old) living with me, and this is one show that all of us can enjoy.
A: The showcase for talented youngsters has been picked up by NBC for a second run. And the network has ordered a spinoff, "Little Big Shots: Forever Young," featuring "young-at-heart seniors." At this writing, neither show has a specific air date.
'Nashville' headed to CMT
Q: You said that the TV show "Nashville" will come back in January on CMT. Why won't it air on ABC?
A: A lot of factors go into the decision to keep a show or let it go. Ratings matter, especially ratings in the age group the network is pursuing. So does the cost of a show, especially as it gets older and contracts have to be renewed. How a show fits into a network's overall schedule — whether, for instance, it can be used to support or promote other projects — can be a factor. Who makes the show becomes an issue, since the network is more likely to protect a show that it owns and can gain profits from the sale of reruns. And there's the matter of how much life is left in a show; can it run for many more seasons, or should the network replace it with something newer and more likely to last?
In the end, ABC decided that there wasn't enough going for "Nashville." According to the Taste of Country website, a top network executive said, "At the end of the day, it [felt] that the future for us did not necessarily lie" with the show. But for fans like yourself, the good news remains that a deal was worked out with CMT.
