Q: My husband and I are wondering when/if "The Americans" with Keri Russell will be returning. It is an exciting show that we hope did not get canceled.
A: You are not alone in loving the Cold War drama starring Russell and Matthew Rhys. It topped my list of the best TV shows of 2014 and ranked sixth in HitFix's recent TV critics poll. ("Fargo" was first.) And it will begin a new season on FX on Jan. 28.
'Longmire' heads to Netflix
Q: Please put "Longmire" on the TV again. We seniors really liked the series. There is so much TV now for young people and very little for seniors.
A: Depending on how you watch TV shows, I have some good news. While A&E decided not to continue the contemporary western past its third season, the online video-streaming service Netflix has ordered a 10-episode fourth season for presentation in 2015. Netflix makes it possible to watch shows on your computer, tablet, mobile phones and so-called smart TVs — or on your regular TV if you can connect your computer to it.
There may also be a DVD and/or Blu-ray release of the new episodes eventually; the first two seasons are available on disc and the third arrives in March. But when the fourth season comes to disc will depend on how long Netflix keeps exclusive rights to it.
'Rookie Blue' is due in 2015
Q: I was wondering if "Rookie Blue" was ever coming back. I have watched all the episodes.
A: Another run of the Canadian-made police drama is ready. According to the Huffington Post, the program shot a 22-episode fifth season while it still had the actors under contract. Eleven episodes were broadcast this past summer, and another 11 are due in 2015, probably in the spring or summer when ABC usually airs new episodes.
What happens then is not clear, with the actors' contracts up and lots of talk that the remaining 11 telecasts will be the show's last. But a seventh season is still possible, the Post reported.
