The grown-up perspective

It's easy to get distracted by all the bells and whistles drowning out policy talk in this political season, but if anyone can manage to pull it off, it's "Frontline." The documentary series can be a bit too somber at times — I'll buy a round if narrator Will Lyman ever cracks a joke — but its take on the two presidential candidates should be required viewing for anyone still on the fence.

End of days

The apocalypse is ushered in by more than just flesh-eating zombies in "Aftermath," a new series in which the characters face meteors, mass disappearances, earthquakes and demonic possessions. Real-life couple Anne Heche and James Tupper are at the head of a family trying to keep its wits amid the madness.

Pub quiz

"Drunk History," the series in which entertainers mark milestone events with the kind of alcohol intake favored by Winston Churchill, returns with a fresh roster of bar patrons including Billie Joe Armstrong, Kat Dennings and Dave Grohl. Keep an eye out for Lin-Manuel Miranda's offering of a slightly more spirited version of "Hamilton."
