The replacements

"30 for 30: Year of the Scab," a documentary paying tribute to the replacement players during the 1987 NFL strike season, focuses primarily on the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins, but anyone who has ever dreamed of playing professional pigskin can relate to these would-be superstars.

Rooting for the little guy

Director Steve James ("Hoop Dreams"), champion of the underdog, takes his cameras into Chinatown for "Abacus: Small Enough to Jail," a documentary about a tight-knit (and occasionally boisterous) family behind a small bank. They faced criminal charges after the 2008 financial crisis while Wall Street bigwigs seemed to get away scot-free. Family patriarch Thomas Sung may be the most unflappable character you'll meet all year.
