The stinging detective

"Major Crimes" was designed as a spinoff of "The Closer" for Mary McDonnell. While the Oscar nominee is still the coolest cop in the room, G.W. Bailey has emerged as the show's most compelling character, a cranky detective who could be the Southern cousin of "NYPD Blue's" Andy Sipowicz. This reliable procedural begins its sixth and final season, set to conclude in January.

The life of pie

Pastry chef Adriano Zumbo, described as Australia's Willy Wonka, gets your sweet tooth buzzing with "Zumbo's Just Desserts," a competition series co-hosted by British chef Rachel Khoo. The initial season was a hit in Australia when it aired last year.
