Whistling a new tune

Looks like Opie Taylor grew up to be a hip-hop fan. Ron Howard is behind the lens for "Made in America" (8 p.m. Friday, Showtime), a documentary on Jay Z's annual music festival in Philadelphia. Pearl Jam, Jill Scott and Kanye West are among the performers.

Battling Alecs

"Up Late With Alec Baldwin" (9 p.m. Friday, MSNBC), a new weekly talk show, should be interesting if only to see which Baldwin shows up. Will it be the smart, sophisticated one who asks terrific questions on his podcast? Or will it be the one in desperate need of anger management training? Either way, it should be fun.

Brave heart

Malala Yousafzai, the 15-year-old girl who was shot by the Taliban for trying to attend school, is interviewed by Christiane Amanpour in "The Bravest Girl in the World" (6 p.m. Sunday, CNN). The special is tied to a new book, "I Am Malala," which came out last week.

Dead man walking

"The Walking Dead" (8 p.m. Sunday, AMC) returns for a fourth season less as a compelling drama and more as a game of Russian roulette. Who will die has become the driving force on a show that started off with much more promise. Let's see if the writers can bring this series back to life.
