"Shooter," the 2007 film that helped establish Mark Wahlberg as a box-office powerhouse, is worth a second look, if only because it has inspired a TV series that debuts Tuesday, with Ryan Phillippe doing a fine job stepping in as a framed assassin. The series premiere has been delayed twice because of mass shootings; real-world reverberations still stand to spoil the adrenaline rush of both the movie and drama for certain viewers.

Before you pick out your holiday turkey, check out "The Past Is Always With Us: The U.S.-Dakota Conflict," a 2013 documentary that doesn't hold back on revisiting an ugly but significant chapter in the history of Minnesota and the nation.
