Calamity Jane

The CW is about to lose two of its more prestigious series, "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" and "Jane the Virgin," which kicks off its fifth and final season. The dramedy's charm lies in both Gina Rodriguez's Golden Globe-winning performance and its ability to both embrace and spoof telenovelas. "Jane" lovers needn't shed too many years: an anthology-style spinoff is in the works with Rodriguez serving as the narrator.

A matter of course

"American Ninja Warrior" gets a challenge of its own with the premiere of "Million Dollar Mile," a competition series that revolves around another "survival of the fittest" obstacle course. Former quarterback Tim Tebow hosts, with LeBron James serving as one of the executive producers.

Love at first bite

"What We Do in the Shadows" is the funniest thing to happen to the vampire genre since the reign of Count Chocula. This spinoff of Jemaine Clement's 2014 feature film has added former University of Minnesota student Mark Proksch as an energy-sucking vampire who puts his victims into a comatose state through mindless banter. Sound like anyone you know?
