How I met James Lipton

The Coen brothers may have been criminally overlooked at the Oscars for "Inside Llewyn Davis," but they'll always be able to say they were the ones who created the Dude for 1998's "The Big Lebowski." That's good enough for us. 6:30 p.m. IFC
Life with father
Christopher Meloni puts his patented icy stare to good use in "Surviving Jack," the rare new sitcom that doesn't play Dad as a dolt. Meloni is a knuckle-rapping father who's always four steps ahead of his son, played by Connor Buckley, who looks a bit too old to be playing a high-school freshman. "I love those darn kids. I may not always like them," Meloni growls at one point, pretty much summing up the entire gist of the series. 8:30 p.m. KMSP, Ch. 9
