American horror stories

"American Crime" dives into the sex-slave industry and the abuse of migrant workers in what's shaping up as another brain-straining but beautifully executed season. Several of the anthology's regulars return, including Regina King and Felicity Huffman, but the breakout star is Ana Mulvoy-Ten, who plays a 17-year-old prostitute challenged by a social worker (King) to stand up to her pimp.

King of the clowns

Does anyone enjoy acting more than John Lithgow? The enthusiasm he's brought to everything from "3rd Rock From the Sun" to "The Crown" could come across as spoiled ham from a lesser talent, but the Emmy winner usually makes over-the-top work. That's certainly the case in "Trial & Error," an otherwise run-of-the-mill sitcom about a small-town murder case. Lithgow plays the eccentric on trial.

9 p.m. Tue., KARE, Ch. 11

The long con

I never saw the 2000 feature film "Snatch" (word of Brad Pitt's incomprehensible Irish accent scared me off), but I'll be putting it on my watch list after checking out the TV version, which features a whole new rogue's gallery of hustlers and villains. Guy Ritchie, who created the movie, has nothing to do with the series, but showrunner Alex De Rakoff has generously adapted the director's kinky visual style and black humor. The dialogue is sometimes hard to follow, even without Pitt to muddle it up, but visually it's a blast.
