Simmering stew

"Young & Hungry," which is winding down its four-year run, relies far too much on unappetizing sexual tension between the rich pretty boy and his comely personal chef, but Emily Osment is a top-notch comic actress who makes the most out of the groan-worthy dialogue. If Hollywood is looking for its next rom-com star, I'd bank on her.

How the West is won

Taylor Sheridan, who's been on quite a roll with his scripts for "Sicario," "Hell or High Water" and "Wind River," wrote and directed all 10 episodes of "Yellowstone," a modern-day western in which Kevin Costner plays a mega-rancher with shades of both J.R and Bobby Ewing. The drama often feels forced — one of Costner's sons seems to be emulating Charles Bronson in "Death Wish" rather than Alan Ladd in "Shane" — but the marriage between the movie actor and the fast-rising filmmaker is a match made in cowboy heaven.

Seeing with new Eyes

The reboot of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" isn't just a success; it may be the most heartwarming show of the year. In the first of a new batch of episodes, the squad goes to small-town Georgia to help build a community center and bolster the spirit of its female champion. The scenario may stray from the show's original premise, but you won't care when you're reaching for a tissue.
