Fighting back

"Hannah Gadsby: Nanette" starts off as fairly typical stand-up showcase, but the Australian comic has more on her mind than amusing an audience, bitterly going after bullies and anyone who pledges allegiance to the anti-gay movement. Tears are just as likely as laughs.

Best seats in the house

The showdown between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors was a letdown, but "Courtside at the NBA Finals" will squeeze drama out of the lopsided affair with its unprecedented access. If anyone can pull it off, it's executive producer Bill Simmons, whose "Andre the Giant" drew the highest premiere audience for an HBO Sports documentary in 15 years.

Black power

"Love Is _" follows a modern-day power couple in black Hollywood, with a cast that includes Loretta Devine and Clarke Peters. The drama has the right husband-and-wife team behind the camera: Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil also created "Being Mary Jane," which will end its critically acclaimed run later this year with a two-hour movie.
