Bull's eye

Many animation fans thought Pixar missed the mark with 2012's archery-themed offering "Brave" (8 p.m. Saturday, Starz), but I must admit that the girl-empowerment film shot an arrow threw my heart. Kelly Macdonald provides just the right lilt as the voice of our plucky heroine, Merida.

An offer you can refuse

The best gangster movies get your adrenaline running. Wish I could say the same about "Inside the American Mob" (8 p.m. Sunday, NGC), a surprisingly bland six-part documentary that tries to pack too much crime into its time. The limited series kicks off with a look at the 1970s, which is considered the golden era for New York "families."

Swamp things

Believe it or not, there are still alligators that Paul Bedard and Jimmy Riffle haven't wrestled. In a batch of new episodes, "The Gator Boys" (9 p.m. Sunday, Animal Planet) return to their home base in Florida where they must face underappreciated Batman villain Killer Croc.
