TV picks for July 18: 'Weekend in Havana,' Rod Carew, 'Shooter'

Geoffrey Baer may not be the slickest tour guide, but he certainly knows how to pick his friends. In "Weekend in Havana," the Emmy-winning producer buddies up to locals who steer him off the beaten path to sample the kind of food, music and fellowship that will make you want to book your flight in the morning.

The incredible story of Twins legend Rod Carew's second chance at life — and the fellow athlete who made it possible — is covered by Bernard Goldberg in a new edition of "Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel."

9 p.m., HBO

The debut of "Shooter" was delayed several times last year as networks worried about how audiences would respond to a series that hinges heavily on mass shootings. That concern hasn't affected the approach to the second season, which opens with carnage at a reunion of military men. The story line and star Ryan Phillippe are compelling, but those who felt uneasy about tuning in last year won't have much reason to change their minds.
