The wide world of sports

Joel McHale skips class at "Community" long enough to host "The ESPY Awards," a live celebration of sports that includes a tribute to Bruce ("Call me Caitlyn") Jenner. Lynx star Maya Moore is one of the few Minnesotans up for hardware. 7 p.m. KSTP, Ch. 5

Queen of queens

The new season of "Leah Remini: It's All Relative" kicks off with a look at how the former "King of Queens" star paid the price for leaving Scientology. It's an interesting chapter in a celebrity's life, but after years of co-hosting talk shows and logging in reality hours, it's time for this talented actress to get back to acting. 8 p.m. TLC

According to Jim

TV Land, a channel formerly known for airing classic reruns and propping up beloved TV stars, slides neatly up to the grown-ups' table with "The Jim Gaffigan Show," a new comedy based not so loosely on the domestic life of its title star. The setup — a stand-up comic balances raising five children with his G-rated act — sounds like a series only the Brady Bunch would enjoy, but the bits about everything from religion to aging are sharp and sophisticated. 9 p.m. TV Land

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
