Play ball!

Who needs MLB? "The Battered Bastards of Baseball" takes a look at how Deputy Clem from "Bonanza" launched the 1973 Portland Mavericks, the only independent team in baseball. The castoffs resemble something like a grown-up version of the Bad News Bears. Kurt Russell provides narration. Now available through Netflix

Monkey business

"Kingdom of the Apes" may sound like yet another sequel to "Planet of the Apes," but it's really a special in which Jane Goodall revisits Tanzania's famed Gombe Stream National Park, where she started her pioneering work with chimpanzees more than 50 years ago. 8 p.m. Sunday, National Geographic Wild

Father and child reunion

"Ray Donovan" can't catch a break. In the second-season premiere, Ray (Liev Schreiber) travels to Mexico to try to convince his scoundrel father (a wonderfully hammy Jon Voight) to come home and face the music from the FBI. Guess who's not eager to come back to America? 8 p.m. Sunday, Showtime
