No mask necessary

"Black Lightning" should be an impressive addition to TV's gallery of costumed characters, but Cress Williams' electro-shocking crusader is not nearly as fascinating as his alter ego, high school principal Jefferson Pierce. Sometimes, a super-dedicated educator is all the hero we need.

Secret weapon

Inventor/tycoon Alfred Loomis hated attention, which means he wouldn't want you to watch "The Secret of Tuxedo Park." Watch it anyway. The "American Experience" documentary shows how Loomis' breakthrough in radar technology may have done more to end World War II than the dropping of atomic bombs.

Dermot and McDermott

For years, people have been mistaking Dylan McDermott and Dermot Mulroney for each other, but they have never shared the screen. That changes when Mulroney guest-stars as a rival to McDermott's cocky pilot on the sitcom "LA to Vegas." For the record, McDermott is the dude from the 1997-2004 TV show "The Practice"; Mulroney was the heartthrob in the 1997 film "My Best Friend's Wedding."

8 p.m., KMSP, Ch. 9
