Your heart will go on

AMC is taking its Oscar-weekend duties very seriously. The movie channel has a full slate of award-winning crowd pleasers starting with "Rocky" (10 a.m.), followed by "True Grit" (12:30 p.m.), "Goodfellas" (3 p.m.), "The Departed" (6 p.m.) and "Titanic" (9:30 p.m.). Don't let the marathon keep you up too late; the 2017 Oscar ceremonies are held Sunday.

AMC, Saturday

Black lives matter

"Roots" is having one heck of a 40th-anniversary party with a remastered version of the iconic miniseries stretched across the weekend. The dialogue and storytelling are a little cheesy by today's standards, but this remains a powerful piece of television. Those with an appetite for more can check out the sequel "Roots: The Next Generations," airing Monday and Tuesday.

10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sundance TV

Power for the course

"Ultimate Beastmaster," Netflix's first reality competition series, is doing its best to live up to its title. Six different versions are being delivered around the world with "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" star Terry Crews and Fox Sports host Charissa Thompson providing analysis for American audiences on the sidelines of a grueling obstacle course. Sylvester Stallone is among the executive producers.
