Diamonds are forever
Bond. James Bond. Now repeat that 300 times and you'll have a rough idea just how much time the Encore Channel is giving the suave spy in September. There will be a Bond film every night, except for Labor Day weekend when it's Bond around the clock, starting with "Dr. No" (7 p.m. Sunday) and concluding with "Never Say Never Again" (10:35 p.m. Monday). Man, that's a lot of shaken-not-stirred martinis.
Life without Lewis
It's been two years since Jerry Lewis was dumped as host of his annual Labor Day telethon, and while the Muscular Dystrophy Association continues to raise heaps of money, its big TV moment has shrunk. This year's telecast, titled "MDA Show of Strength" (8 p.m. Sunday, KSTP, Ch. 5) clocks in at only two hours, roughly the same amount of time it took Lewis to get through "You'll Never Walk Alone."
Getting Hitched
TCM is turning over its Sundays in September to Alfred Hitchcock films, both celebrated and obscure. Kick off the 48-film festival by rewatching 1960's "Psycho" (9 p.m. Sunday, TCM), followed by "The Lodger" (11 p.m., TCM), a 1926 silent in which we learn that the Bates Hotel isn't the only dangerous place to rent a room.
