TV picks for Aug. 31: 'Rancher, Farmer, Fisherman,' Colin Hanks, 'Guilty Rich'
"Rancher, Farmer, Fisherman," a celebration of the "little guy" still working off the land, finds material for its patriotic message throughout the country, but narrator Tom Brokaw saves his most passionate prose for Montana, where he has long owned a ranch. After this documentary comes out, the former NBC anchor will never have to buy a steak dinner in his adopted state again.

Like father, like son
You love Tom Hanks so much that you'll be tempted to re-watch "Forrest Gump" (7 p.m., VH1) for the 18th time, but save a little room in your heart for son Colin, who's backing up his endearing performance on CBS' "Life in Pieces" with a fine career directing documentaries. His latest: a short on Dennis Rodman's time with the Chicago Bulls during the 1996-97 season, part of the ongoing series "ESPN Films: Sports Shorts."
10 p.m., ESPN 2
Money changes everything
Some 1-percenters get taken down a digit or two in "Guilty Rich," a new series which proves that greed isn't always good. The premiere focuses on the great-grandson of cosmetics legend Max Factor — Andrew Luster, who was convicted on several sexual assault charges.
9 p.m., Discovery ID
