Having a ball

Preteens won't need a killer chip shot to feel like part of team on "The Kicks," a new live-action series in which a ragtag team of young girls bond as underdogs in a highly competitive soccer league. The series, based on the books by U.S. Women's National Team star Alex Morgan, celebrates female empowerment just as much as it does the sport, and newcomer Sixx Orange has the chops to be remembered for more than just her name.

Let's get physical

The Three Stooges, who turned the eye poke into an art form, get a four-day tribute, starting with a collection of short classics (7 p.m.). It includes a thorough nine-part documentary, "Hey Moe! Hey Dad!" (Part 1 airs at 3 a.m.) featuring tributes from film historian Leonard Maltin and Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg. See more info at Decades.com.

Woman on top

"China's Emperor of Evil" profiles Wu Zetian, the country's only female emperor, who was rumored to have slaughtered her own children on the way to leading her kingdom to the edge of ruin. Filmmakers use forensic tools and artifacts to reveal the truth.
