Working blue

Comedians of every stripe put Minneapolis on their favorite cities list, including two Blue Collar vets. "Jeff Foxworthy & Larry the Cable Guy: We've Been Thinking Tour" was filmed in March at the Orpheum Theatre, where the longtime road buddies performed stand-up routines and teamed up for a Q&A.

Treasure islands

The birthday celebration for Yosemite, Yellowstone and Glacier is louder and longer than any bash Oprah Winfrey ever threw for herself. But that doesn't mean you should skip "America's National Parks at 100," a celebration of the country's great treasures that manages to be exhilarating without a star-studded guest list.

Back to Future

Hard to believe that the first "MTV Video Music Awards" were hosted 32 years ago by Dan Aykroyd and Bette Midler, two figures who have about as much to do with pop videos as Nelson Mandela. Rihanna, who wasn't even born then, will receive the Vanguard Award with performances from Future, Nick Jonas and Britney Spears.

About last night

Eight episodes focused on a single murder case may seem excessive, but the finale of "The Night Of" seems to be upon us all too quickly, with lots of questions begging to be addressed in the 95-minute capper. It's hard to believe producers will satisfy die-hard fans, but the first season of "True Detective" had an unsatisfactory conclusion and still managed to resonate.
