Those who want to take in the solar eclipse without craning their necks have plenty of opportunities to experience the phenomenon at eye level from the comfort of their home. "The Total Solar Eclipse" (3 p.m., Weather Channel) is aimed at purists while "Nova: Eclipse Over America" (8 p.m., TPT, Ch. 2) and "Great American Eclipse" (8 p.m., Science Channel) offer more historical background.

Time of your life

ABC's re-imagining of "Dirty Dancing" was one of this summer's unexpected gems, but there's nothing quite like the kitschy original that made Patrick Swayze a Hollywood hunk to reckon with. Go ahead and celebrate the 30th anniversary of its release date with an all-day marathon, but if you find yourself singing along to every word of "Hungry Eyes," take a break by dunking your head in Lake Calhoun.

Family tradition

"Marlon," which recently sneaked onto NBC's summer schedule, isn't the first time a member of the talented Wayans family settled for an unambitious sitcom. Brother Damon's talents were underutilized in "My Wife and Kids," which ran on ABC from 2001 to 2005. It's no sin to re-watch this two-hour block of repeats, unless you keep flashing back to "In Living Color" and wondering why its star and so many of his relatives decide to settle for mediocrity.

9 p.m., MTV2
