TV picks for Aug. 1: "Young Hollywood Awards," "Our Nixon," "Hatfields & McCoys"
Apparently being young and successful isn't enough for Kit Harington ("Game of Thrones"), Lucy Hale ("Pretty Little Liars") and Tatiana Maslany ("Orphan Black"). They're all being honored at "2013 Young Hollywood Awards" (7 p.m., WUCW, Ch. 23). Personally, I'd rather they scrap this award and give Maslany the Emmy nomination she so richly deserved.
Tricky Dick
"Our Nixon" (8 p.m., CNN) uses home movies from Richard Nixon's closest advisers, plus new tape excerpts to create a terrific, often surprising documentary about the disgraced president. You don't have to be a political junkie to enjoy Nixon's frustrations with Henry Kissinger's flirting or his scathing review of "All in the Family."
Them are fighting words
The History Channel continues to mine stories from America's most famous family feud in "Hatfields & McCoys: White Lightning" (9 p.m., History). Instead of Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton, we get Mark Hatfield and Jim McCoy battling over who makes the best moonshine.
