Handling the truth

CBS' passions for the military and crime procedurals mesh nicely in "The Code," a promising new drama in which attorneys for the Marines duke it out over the Case of the Week. The first episode borrows a little too much from "A Few Good Men," but stars Luke Mitchell and Anna Wood have crackling chemistry in and out of the courtroom.

Slavery by another name

"Reconstruction: America After the Civil War" isn't technically a sequel to Ken Burns' "The Civil War," but it ends up serving as a compelling follow-up series, hosted by another PBS all star, Henry Louis Gates Jr. The four-hour documentary series concludes next Tuesday.

Watching "Fosse/Verdon" won't give you the same thrill as scoring front-row seats to "Hamilton," but this star-studded miniseries is still one of the can't-miss TV events of the year, even if you're one of those people who hates musicals. Sam Rockwell and Michelle Williams are terrific as the volatile couple who, for better or worse, gave us jazz hands. Read more at startribune.com/tv.
