Growing up

St. Louis Park native Emily Schmidt is part of the writing team for "No Good Nick," a new comedy series with Melissa Joan Hart and Sean Astin trying to raise a would-be brat. Schmidt, a member of the Twin Cities improv scene for many years, previously worked as a writers' assistant on the Netflix series "Girlboss" and the feature film "Blockers."

Shake and bake

Duff Goldman is challenging Gordon Ramsay and Guy Fieri for the title of TV's busiest chef. "Duff Takes the Cake" is the food personality's fifth series currently in production. In this one, the "Ace of Cakes" star brings specialized goodies to unlikely settings, like a fireworks festival in L.A.'s Chinatown.
