Tunisan police says a suspected terrorist killed in raid, another wounded after firefight

TUNIS, Tunisia — Tunisian officials say a suspected terrorist was killed and another wounded after an intense firefight in a dawn raid by special forces.

Tunisia's interior ministry said in a statement that six other suspects were arrested in the operation that took place in Tunis' El Ouardia neighborhood on Sunday.

The ministry statement said the targets of the raid were wanted in connection with "other security affairs." It did not say what those affairs were.

The push against suspected extremists follows July 25 assassination of an opposition leader, which authorities have blamed on an al-Qaida-linked cell, some of whose members have been detained.

The killing has sparked protests in the country, which was the birthplace of the Arab spring, and is threatening its nascent government.
