Former Twins owner Carl Pohlad played football for Gonzaga back in the day. So Monday's combination of Opening Day and the NCAA title game featuring the Bulldogs was perhaps the greatest day in history to know that fact.
The Wild can clinch home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs by defeating Carolina at Xcel Energy Center (7 p.m., FSN). It's a far cry from home ice throughout the playoffs, but it would be the first time since 2007-08 that the Wild had the home-ice edge in any playoff series.
"Don't play yourself out of contention in the first month of the season. Stop making stupid mistakes on the bases and playing lackadaisical defense. And most of all start getting six to seven decent innings out of the starters. If you do all that and stay around .500 after the first month, my mind will be open."

"My favorite thing about Opening Day, even more than games all day, is knowing there are games for the next six months. I find it comforting."
