Tuesday's prep sports roundup: North Branch beats Pine City boys' hockey in OT

Cody Moline beat Alex Laven 1:48 into overtime on the power play to give North Branch a 3-2 victory over host Pine City in boys' hockey Tuesday night.

The Vikings killed off a 5-on-3 disadvantage to open the extra session but got a power play of their own immediately after. Moline took advantage of the extra space off a drop pass off the boards and walked to the middle before firing a wrist shot from the high slot into the net.

The senior forward assisted on the game-tying goal by Jacob Richards 4 minutes, 1 second into the third period. Brady Meyer also assisted on the goal. Meyer got the Vikings on the board first 13:18 into the game.

Jordan Stich scored two goals for the Dragons in the second period.

Trevor Mellen stopped 43 shots for the Vikings, including 21 in the second period, and Laven had 22 saves for the Dragons.

Duluth East 5, Centennial 3: Ian Mageau broke a 3-3 tie with 4:51 left in the third period to give the Class 2A, No. 3 Greyhounds the victory over the visiting Class 2A, No. 5 Cougars. He later added an empty-net goal to seal the victory and had an assist earlier in the game. Lucas McGregor scored his third goal of the game to tie the score at 3-3 with 5:49 left in the third period. Frederick Hunter Paine had a goal and two assists, Will Fisher had a goal and an assist and Ricky Lyle scored a goal for the Greyhounds. Travis Allen stopped 38 shots and Hayden Brickner had two assists for the Cougars.

Prior Lake 6, Apple Valley 4: Preston Underhill scored three goals to lead the Lakers past the host Eagles. Lazarus Kaebel had one goal and two assists, Jack Kennedy had two assists, Moses Kaebel had a goal and an assist and Kobe Kimmes had a goal for the Lakers. Parker Jamison, Carter Johnson, AJ Kasner and Hunter DeWall scored for the Eagles and Corey Zuelow had two assists. Lucky Bolden stopped 24 shots for the Eagles.

Eastview 5, Farmington 2: The Lightning broke the game open with three goals in the second period to defeat the host Tigers. Luke Barron scored two goals, Chris Fan and Ryan Quaintance had a goal each to help the Lightning build a 4-0 lead after two periods. Zach Anderson scored for the Lightning in the third period. Zach Willis and Reed Kadrlik scored in third period for the Tigers. Ben Beattie stopped 26 shots for the Lightning, including 10 in the third period.

Delano 5, Minneapolis 2: Justin Daly and Jack Paulson scored two goals each to lead the Class 1A, No. 9 Tigers past host Minneapolis. Adam Brown had a goal and an assist and Tucker Hart had two assists for the Tigers. Huck Sorock and Jacob Erickson scored a goal for Minneapolis.

South St. Paul 5, St. Paul Johnson 1: The Packers jumped out to a 4-0 lead by the midway point of the second period and cruised past the host Governors. Jacob Saver, Nathan Brandecker, Matthew Gellerman and Cam Kluender had a goal and an assist each and Samuel Rohrer had a goal for the Packers. Luke Moberg got the Governors on the board in the second period. Jacob Toensing stopped 21 shots for the Packers and Aaron Lee made 22 saves for the Governors.

Edina 5, Cretin-Derham Hall 2: The Class 2A, No. 1 Hornets scored three goals in the second period to break the game open against the host Class 2A, No. 10 Raiders. Peter Colby, Sammy Walker and Ben Brinkman had a goal and an assist for the Hornets, Jett Jungels had two assists and Bjorn Swanson and Mason Nevers scored a goal each. Grayson Milosch and Michael Kramer scored for the Raiders and George Maguire stopped 29 shots.

Andover 3, Minnetonka 2: Claire Butorac broke a 2-2 with 12:00 left in the third period to give the Class 2A, No. 8 Huskies the victory over the host Class 2A, No. 6 Skippers. The Skippers took a 2-0 in the first period on goals by Maggie Nicholson and Kate Hoelscher. Jamie Nelson and Peyton Hemp had a goal and an assist in the second period to tie the game heading into the third period for the Huskies.

Wayzata 2, Lakeville North 1 (OT): Emily Wisniewski scored 2:10 into overtime to lift the Class 2A, No. 14 Trojans past the host Panthers. Brooke Power tied the game for the Panthers 3:02 into the third period. Sophie Urban got the Trojans on the board 9:21 into the second period. Sloane Matthews had two assists and Stephanie Garvis stopped 24 shots for the Trojans. Kallie Schneider made 29 saves for the Panthers.

Holy Family/Waconia 3, Hopkins/St. Louis Park 2 (OT): Grace Blood scored her second goal of the game 5:19 into overtime to give the Wildfire the victory over the visiting Hopkins/St. Louis Park. Kylie Hanley tied the score for Hopkins/St. Louis Park with 7:00 left in regulation. Charlotte Rich got Hopkins/St. Louis Park on the board first 11:04 into the first period. Molly Garin tied the score at 1-1 with 2:04 left in the first period for the Wildfire. Blood scored her first goal of the game in the second period to give the Wildfire its first lead of the game. Alex Pellicci stopped 42 shots for the Wildfire, and Emily Bolen made 25 saves for Hopkins/St. Louis Park.

Simley 4, Henry Sibley 1: Kate Carlson and Molly Illetschko had two goals to lead the Spartans past the host Warriors. Emma Nagel scored and Paige Erickson had 28 saves for the Warriors.

Monticello 79, North Branch 45: Matt Todd became the third player in school history and second in the boys' program to reach the 2,000-point milestone in the Magic's victory over the visiting Vikings.

Prior Lake 60, Farmington 53: Dawson Garcia scored 25 points to lead the Lakers past the visiting Tigers. Robert Jones had 16 points for the Lakers. Adam Weed led the Tigers with 14 points and Caden Freetly had 11.

Benilde-St. Margaret's 78, Holy Angels 76 (2OT): The Knights overcame a seven-point halftime deficit to force overtime and then won in the second session over the visiting Stars. Gabe Alada led the Knights with 27 points. Joe Dunn had 26 points and Carter Uphus had 12 for the Knights. Ryan Mazurek led the Stars with 21 points. Max Gerstner had 17 points, Tommy Shelstad had 11 and Thor Holien had 10 for the Stars.
